Re:
Births Mar 1861 (>99%)
BOOTH James Manchester 8d 252

The matching local index entry is:
Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1861
Surname Forename(s) Sub-District Registers At Mother's Maiden Name Reference
BOOTH James Saint George Archives+, Manchester Central Library STG/74/42

One can verify the match by looking at some other entries on the GRO page, and seeing their local ref is either identical to our lad, or differs by 1 or 2 in the last bit of ref.
[Here that last bit is a local page #, and a local B/D rego has 5 entries per page - sometimes the local index uses an entry # so the difference then could be up to 9 - LancsBMD uses an entry # for marrs, so one knows who wed whom]
LancsBMD indexes by year of birth, so we know this James was born in 1861, rather than Dec 1860 but not rego'ed until the new year.

I know that YOU had the info, but I didn't, and I'm trying to get the overall picture.

Colette

Colette Report 13 Mar 2015 16:20

Hi Jacqueline I have all this information all I needed was someone to lookup James Booth's baptism..Edward was a Striker Blacksmith on his marriage cert..yet on his sons he says he was a Soldier Deceased I have trawled through the FMP Soldiers records pre WW1 and Can't find him..
I a wondering if he left his wife and joined the Army after James was born and this is why she is back with her parents in Ardwick and little James was ill in hospital his wife Elizabeth was born in Ardwick in 1840..I can't find her in any census after 1861.

Edward says his father was Richard Booth a Millwright I can find either of them on a census..

Thanks again Colette

The only reason the child would be registered as Brooks would be if his mother had him with a man other than her husband, which would have been a bit soon after a marriage in mid-1858

His birth may simply not have been registered, as it was before 1875.

What surname did James use when he married?

Colette

Colette Report 13 Mar 2015 16:01

Hi Jacqueline they had a son named James born abt 1859-60 he is not with his mother in 1861 she is with her parents in Ardwick down as Brooks married no sign of Edward..but there is a child named James Brooks born in Manchester 1859 at the Hunts Bank Cheetham Hospital Infirmary Manchester..that could be him..but I can'tfind the family as a unit.James moves to Liverpool and marries there in 1883.

Thanks Colette

Until you know if there were any, you can't look for baptisms

Try familysearch

I posted the marriage record because your info was slightly inaccurate, which is surprising, if you have the cert
