You say the marriage to Grace was in 1720 - how do you know that?

How do you know that both women were married to the same man?

We have found quite a lot of info which relates to both wifes including dates but like me nobody has found the surname of the said woman.

Can I ask how you know it's the same John Houghton who married both Elizabeth and Grace. ?
There are many John Houghtons born c 1681 in that area

HOUGHTON/ SCOTT/ WHITTAKER/ LORD

Maureen Roberts (member No 7728) writes "I began my search into the Scott family over three years after being given a photograph of a man named Emmanuel Scott. It was thought that he was my great grandfather. Curiosity led me to confirm this and then search further back. Never having done anything like this and being computer illiterate, it was slow progress until I discovered 2Haslingden Roots" and this led to contact with the LFHHS".

With a tremendous amount of help from various members of these groups I was able to trace back the Scott line to George, born about 1745. I was unable to find out little about George other than his marriage to Ann Houghton. I have since managed to trace back to Ann’s grandfather John Houghton, yeoman of Haslingden born about 1681. He married Elizabeth Hoyle in 1703. Their son Giles was the father of Ann.

I have traced many descendants of George and Ann Scott. My 3X grandfather was John who married Margaret Whittaker in 1913. Margaret died in 1839 but I can not find anything further about John Scott.

I would like to hear from any member working on the Houghton, Scott or Benson family (from Kirby Malham)

The Scotts were staunch Methodists and in latter generations Emmanuel was a lay preacher. His eldest son George married Mary Hannah Lord, daughter of the first Mayor of Rawtenstall. They lived at Cowpe until George’s death in 1951.

How do you know the marriage took place in 1720?

I am hoping someone may be able to assist with the surname of the wife of John Houghton 1681 Haslindgen... He married Elizabeth Hoyle in 1704. John married Grace in 1720, no surname for Grace is showing.
