Thanks MarieCeleste,

I was always suspicious that William was born in South Africa.

It has been a challenge to find out what became of him & his family.

I now wonder what became of his daughter Janet Kilpatrick who was born in Portsmouth.

If she is alive she would be in her early seventies

Again thank you for your assistance.

Dougie

Thanks everyone for their replies but what I am after is what became of William & his family after 1946 when he left Southampton for South Africa.

I know that he had a daughter Janet Kilpatrick born in Portsmouth in 1944 who is listed on the ship's manifest in 1946.

My informant also told me that he was employed on the railways in South Africa after he returned there in 1946

Regards,

Dougie

Dougieb1 Report 11 Mar 2015 17:21

I am trying to find out what became of the family of William Gibb Kilpatrick born about 1910 possibly in South Africa.

William's parents were William Kilpatrick & Fanny Thorpe.

They had emigrated from Scotland.

I am told that William had a sister but my informant could not remember what her forename was

William married May Clarke in Portsmouth in 1939.

He was awarded The Distinguished Service Medal in 1944.

He sailed from Southampton with his family in 1946 back to South Africa.

My trail has now gone cold.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Dougie
