Harold Walter Hunter, 30, Bachelor, Gardener, of 19 Pleasant Walk, Goole married Lillian Walker, 30, Spinster, of 5 Laund Road, Salendine Nook, at St Stephen's Parish Church Lindley on the 27.11.1920.

Salendine Nook is part of Lindley (often called Lindley-cum-Quarmby), 2 miles north of Huddersfield (Huddersfield District Registry)

The witnesses at the wedding were Lillian Walker's father George William Walker and her brother Arthur Nisbett Walker.

After the wedding the couple lived for a short time in Goole where their first 2 children were born, Olive Hunter (1921) and Peggy Hunter (1923). In the late 1920s they returned to the Huddersfield area and settled in Mirfield where yheir son George (KA Philip) Hunter was born in around 1930 ( Dewsbury District and later Spen Valley). Harold Walter Hunter was employed as park keeper.

Harold Hunter is on the electoral Register at Doctor Avenue, Mirfield for a number of years after WW2 and his daughter, Peggy Hunter, married there in 1950.

Having obtained the marriage certificate I thought tracing Harold's ancestors would be a walk in the park but, frustratingly, the gates seem to be locked.

Harold Walter Hunter's father is given as Harold Hunter (Shopkeeper) on the marriage certificate and I cannot wed the two on any censuses.

Any help would be appreciated,

Richard
