Yes. I know for sure the South Shields is not my John. I have the birth cert. Now trying to decide if I should spend another $40.00 to get the other John. Wish I could narrow it down a little more first. |

I wondered about that one Yvonne but Genuki doesn't give Leadgate as an area covered by that registration district - although that doesn't say it isn't the correct record. |

I have replied to a similar pm from Jackie and told her that there may not be a birth record to find for John Straughan as there were no penalties at that time for not registering a birth. |

Clue to whereabouts on the Ancestry Tree. Stringham as a surname transcription didn't feature as a variant on FMP!! |

Same tree has parents as Robert b1825 Ryton, Co. Durham -d Jan 1901 Tynemouth RD and Mary Davison b1828 Widdrington, Northumberland -d1905 Morpeth RD (although no marriage Reg. found it says).Tree will take you back to Howe STRAUGH b 1710, no spouse shown |

Marriage certificate on an Ancestry public tree shows them married 4 May 1870 at Morpeth Reg. Office. He 22 Bachelor, Coal Miner residing at West Sleekburn, Bedlington at time of marriage, Father Robert also a Coal Miner. Isabella age 21 Domestic Servant living at West Chevington, Father William also a Miner. Witnesses John ? Rutledge and Mary Straughan |

Searching for information on John Straughan born about 1848 in leadgate England. He married Isabella Laws in 1871 and the came to the U.S. in 1873-4. Name change shows on Brittanic ship records. Name is Stratton in the U.S. records. His father was Robert Straughan according to Marriage certificate. isabella's father was William Laws married to a Swinborn. |
