Hi Rootgatherer,

the information that I was given was from James' grandson Stephen. I was hoping that I might get somewhere using the service numbers but that hasn't worked out. Stephen's health is not great so I didn't want to press him too much during my recent visit. I know that James had a son named Jack (born in Dublin) and he was captured at Dunkirk, spending the next 3 years or so as a POW. I'll ask Stephen what his Grandmother's name was and go down that route. Thanks Rambling Rose and Yvonne for the records, I'll see if they mean anything to Stephen.

How did you get back to him please?

If he was Irish, he would more likely have served with an Irish regiment.

Do you have names for his parents or siblings please? Did he marry?

Thanks for the information AnnCardiff, will take a look. Thanks for trying Glitterbaby, hadn't any luck myself either with those service numbers. I wasn't born before James died in 1934 so I never met the man and am relying on second hand information from an elderly relative which as you can appreciate can get jumbled up over the generations. He was definitely buried in Dublin though.

Getting no matches at all for those service numbers

Surely if he is a relative you must have some idea of where born

Hello everyone,

with regards to World War One records I was hoping that someone could please point me in the right direction. I'm searching for information on a relative of mine named James Barrett. He was born circa 1881 (not sure where but maybe Ireland as he was buried in a military cemetery in Dublin). He died 14th April 1934. I'm led to believe, from an older family member, that James was with the Northumberland Fusiliers. I was given an army number 5545 & a reserve's number 607184. Any help would be great. Thank you.
