Find Ancestors

I was wondering if I could get some help please to look for my elusive Gt Grand father Joseph Cartwright. I can only find him on the 1911 census married to Elizabeth and with my grandmother Gladys when she was a child.

I have been looking for him for some time now but cannot find him.

On the marriage certificate to Elizabeth (Lizzie) he states that his father was William Cartwright a Locksmith journeyman. While I was again looking for him yesterday, I came across a 1901 census same area for a William Cartwright with a son Joseph but born in 1893 but at the bottom of the census is a William Wootton born 1874 and with the same occupation as my Gt Grandfather had.
Do you think he could have taken the Cartwright name between censuses? I have added both census for you.

Yes but was wondering if he took the name of Cartwright after the 1901 census, I cant find Joseph Wootton on the 1911 but its trying to prove the fact
