My g-g- grandmother was Leah Ferrell, allegedly (according to census returns etc) born 1855 in Lambeth, Surrey. I am trying to track down her birth certificate, and from there, her parents.

She was first married to Edward Body in 1876, then to Thomas Clare in 1896. In between, she had a number of children with Thomas Clare (she lived as his wife) and was baptised in 1889,

It is not clear from the 3 marriage certificates that I have (she married George Wright in 1900) what the name of her father was. It may have been Christopher - according to her bapitsm record.

She doesn't appear in the BMD index and, when I've tried looking at the original record (online) the printing is so poor on what I believe to be the relevant pages, as to be completely illegible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for all the replies. I am sure that Leah Clare was the lady who married Edward Body, and George Wright, as well as Thomas Clare. Having recently discovered what had happened to Edward Body, I realised why she recorded)n't marry my g-g-grandfather before having children., one of whom they called Leah after her mother (this was my g-grandmother).

I suspect she could not read or write. This could help to explain why her father's name appeared to be different when recorded on the 3 marriage certificates and her baptism record. (she could not check what was being recorded). I'm not even convinced that her maiden name was Ferrell ...

I wonder if the uncertainty regarding her father's name was because she wasn't widowed when she re-married?

This looks to me like her husband in 1911 (with a different wife, although haven't found the marriage yet )
