If you look at the actual parich register entry the surnames of Charles and his father is Childe and both their occupations are 'Waiter'

OK, so marriage cert. states that both Charles and his father's occupation was Waiter and surname is Childe

The online marriage on 1 Oct 1840 at Holborn, Middlesex, lists Ann Leggatte as Single of full age with father Robert Leggatte Land Surveyor and spouse Charles Childe - Waiter
