Unless there is something I am missing, I can find no further information regarding Emily after the 1861 census.

Hi Rose.........the Eliza who married Henry Butt was actually Harriet Eliza Summerton, Emily's sister.

I think you are right on the birth and baptism for Emily Kate "Sommerton"

I did check those two marriages out but couldn't come up with anything on the 1881 census.

Alverstoke as an RD always makes me think Army or Navy, so perhaps he /they were away in 1881, but here they are in 1891 with Fred a Retired Farrier RA (Army) and Emily's age has slipped a bit !

I see the time is out on posts :-S

Amongst other things, Fred's Service record shows he was in Clonal, County Tipperary in November 1880 and Curragh, Co Kildare November 1882 so probably missed 1881 census!.

No dates/places but a note on the record says NOK Wife, Emily Kate with husband. Was in South Africa Feb-Nov 1885. He was discharged service as a Farrier Sergeant after 23 years in March 1891 at Trowbridge, Wilts. He was married with leave on 15th December 1876 living on married estate Gosport (Alverstoke is these days the posh bit of Gosport and the area RD). He would appear to be in the general Portsmouth area up to arrival in Newcastle in 1877, so is probably where he met Emily as Portsmouth is just across the harbour from Gosport/Alverstoke.

Not just the time out on posts but the order in which they are appearing lolol. :-S
