I found the marriage in Northallerton which was registered in Easingwold District - you are correct.

Thanks for the above info. I will take a look. It is possible that if a marriage took place between a Ditchburn and a Wells, then this could be who I am looking for. My grandmother was born illegitimately as a Metcalfe in 1893, by 1901 she was living with a family called Howe, by the time of her marriage in 1916 her surname was Howe - official adoption did not take place until the 1920's.

There isn't anyone named Wells in Northallerton in 1911 who could be Mary

I have looked for her on the 1911 census and nothing that is showing appears to be anywhere near to Mary's year of birth.

I am currently helping a friend with his family research and have found that his grandparents were Kenneth John Dargue and Mary Hannah Wells, marriage at Northallerton, Yorkshire recorded in Sep qtr 1921. From the probate records I have found that Mary Hannah Dargue (formally Wells) died in 1964 at Kirkby Thore, Westmorland (Death registration shown as DARQUE Mary aged 62, Westmorland North vol 1b page 572 - freebmd.org)

I have managed to trace the Dargue family (Westmorland), however I am having trouble trying to find where Mary Hannah Wells was born. I have estimated that her year of birth is approx. 1902.

I have tried various different searches, but nothing is anywhere near to Mary's year of birth. I thought that perhaps whe was born as an illegitimate child and then her mother married a Wells and she took on her step fathers surname (I have known for this to happen (my own grandmother) as official adoption did not come into place until the 1920's)

Any help would be very much appreciated.
