Trying to find information regarding Robert Kay born about 1865 and died 1918. He was married to Sarah Ann Read in 1901 and had 2 sons Albert born 1902 and Herbert born 1905. I know everything about him from his marriage to the present day but am unable to work out his birthplace or his ancestry going backwards from his parents. Can anyone help please? Thankyou |

For an idea of where we might be looking - is this your couple? |

Yes. This is definitely the correct Robert Kay and he was married to Sarah Ann Read in Southport which was in the district of Ormskirk. He also died in Southport in 1918 if that helps. Thanks Greyghost |

This is one of my problems as Sarah was with the two boys at her father John Reads in Hull in 1911 census and I have been unable to find John in Southport or anywhere else despite the fact that they definitely lived there. I can't find either of them in the 1901 census either, although they were married in Southport in Apr/May/Jun 1901. There is a Robert Kay in Southport in 1901 at his Uncles Thomas Robinson but I have no way of knowing if that is him. |

The relationships given should be to the Head of the House so in this case Robert should be uncle to John Rimmer |

Hi Greyghost. That does sound like my Robert in which case, if he was born in Bolton I should be a step nearer to discovering who his parents were. Will get cracking!! |

Hi Andy. No wonder I couldn't find him as its obviously been mistranscribed as Hay not Kay. Thank you both so much. |

No I don't have a marriage certificate only word of mouth but now I know he was born in Bolton I will be able to narrow him down and maybe not have to send for too many certificates, |
