Thanks for your help everyone.

I did see the James Hooker entry but yes, Southwark is a days march from Hersham.

I've tried https://familysearch.org/ with no joy. None of the usual websites seem to have someone researching the same James as me.

I haven't a clue who the witness Mary Thompson is on the marriage certificate. It's a shame it was pre 1941 census and pre 1837 registration by a matter of weeks.

I'll keep trying. Something may come out of the woodwork!

Have you worked out who Mary Thompson, the witness, is to James on that marriage cert

Surrey, England, Marriages, 1754-1937

The early ones only give witnesses

To find connections, try looking in search trees

You won't find a birth...............the best you can hope for is a baptism

Where have you looked?

have you tried............

https://familysearch.org/

For info..........
English and Welsh marriage certs (post July 1837) have only the names of fathers.

James Thompson b1805/6 m 23/05/1837, d1897 was married to Sarah Wells. He was born in Hersham, Surrey according to most census results although one has it as Walton on Thames which is just up the road. I am unable to find any birth records online and the marriage register does not have the name of his parents. Does anyone have a connection?
