Hello - I have just started researching and have some photographs that I have uploaded and marked as public in my keepsafe area. (I hope that is right). There are some photographs of family weddings my Nanna Watson (nee Ellen King) is in both. The black and white one she has written "John and wife, me and young Peter - so I am going to say that their surname is Leaburn. My Aunty Beryl Leaburn (nee Watson) is the lady in the fur coat. The second group have no markings but I think it might be Keith Watson. If you recognise any one and have any details I would be appreciative. Kind Regards %3A-%29 %3B-%29 %26lt%3B3

Hi Elaine and welcome to the boards.

As it is highly unlikely that anyone connected to your family will see this thread, it would be in your best interest to click on "Search" above.........and then "Search All Members Trees" from the drop down menu.

You will then be able to find out if any other members have your family in their trees

It you find any connections..........you can then contact the tree owners.

Good luck..........Prickles. :-)

Apart from identifying the people in the photographs, are you looking for anything else?

I just wanted to start researching my family tree. I have tracked down my grandparents marriage date and have ordered a certificate. Hopefully that will give me a start.

Family name Watson
John and Ellen (nee King)
Children Beryl (married Peter Leaburn), Kenneth, (wife Doreen)Raymond (wife Beryl Hughes)

I will learn the ropes about how to trace the families I guess. Many thanks :-)

AnnCardiff ....... she was Ellen King who married Watson, not the other way around, Elaine said at first

(again, I'm sorry if you think it rude of me to ask, but it would be helpful if you would just click the delete on all those Ellen Watson marriage records since they do clutter the thread and confuse)

Beryl was born in 1926 in Birmingham

so their marriage was 1925 Birmingham

next Elaine is to tell us what it is you are wanting to find out :-)

John and Ellen's parents and ancestors?

the dates and places you have are the essential info to start with ... info about their descendants is not generally very useful (except in this case it substituted for the dates and places, to find their marriage!)

the marriage certificate will give you a good start
it will stated their ages and occupations and their fathers' names and occupations

because their names are probably not unique, that info is likely essential

that will let you search the 1911 census for them, with an approx date of birth and a father's name

and that should give you their mothers' given names, and then you can search for their parents' marriages and also for their parents in earlier censuses, and then you won't be a newbie anymore!

and just come on back here when you have the certificate if you need help

you will probably find that searching yourself is much more fun than having someone do it for you, so if you want to do that and just need some tips to start, be sure to say you're not asking for anyone to do the work before someone gets carried away and traces your people back to the Conquest :-)

if you don't have a subscription to a site that has censuses etc., I'll volunteer that I would go with the Ancestry.co.uk basic UK records to start with and that will serve you well for a good time

the other basic (free) sites are Freebmd, as you have probably been using, and familysearch.org

thanks for the PM Elaine - in the course of considering your question I found your old thread !

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/trying_to_find/thread/506760?d=desc

Beryl and Peter lived in Edinburgh which is why I don't find children and death records in England :-)
(remember, dates and places)

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

shows 3 Peter Leaburn deaths and 1 Beryl Leaburn death, and by narrowing the search to 1992, that is when Beryl died

that is a pay-per-view site, buy credits and see what you can find ... and you can also find quite a bit without paying, as I just did with Beryl's death

you won't be able to see birth certificates for children born in the 20th century but you can order them, but just the search results page will likely tell you what you want

there were 20 Leaburn births 1946-1960 (none in Edinburgh), one named Peter for instance (I searched for that name in those years)
