Janet Report 15 Jan 2015 16:35

Hi
I'm trying to find if any of my family mentioned above originated from Ireland.
I was told when I was a child years ago a member of our family came over from Ireland to England 'a babe in arms 'but I can't remember at what time or which family member it was.
The only possible connection I can think of is My grandmother Mary Jane Hellewell B. 1878 she was born in Liverpool. I thought maybe the family could have arrived here.
Mary's parent's were Fred Hellewell B.1852 and Mary Jane Raper B.1847.
Mary Hellewell married George Frederick Foster B.1874.
George's parent's were Joseph Foster B. 1842 and Annie Quinn B.1841 (formerly Shillito).
Would be grateful of any help.
Kind Regards
Janet

So, no Irish heritage on either side.............at least not as far back as the 1820's

Of all of the surnames you list, Quinn is the most likely to be Irish in origin

Hello Janet and welcome to the Community boards.

(I'll let Janet know how to find her replies) :-)

Hi Many thanks for all replies and research.
These are definately the same families I'm researching except for George Frederick Foster B.1873 Knaresbrough.
I didn't have some of the marriage details mentioned which is really helpful and the census info. regarding the Quinns is especially useful. It seems this must be the connection I'm looking for.
I would be interested in trying to trace other members of the Quinn family in Ireland. I would be really grateful if someone could offer advice on how to do this.
Kind Regards
Janet
