Oh yes, I forgot I had also come across 1881 census showing Mary REYNOLDS lodger 19 cotton weaver b. Manch., Lancs. at 33 Edensor St Ardwick with –
CAIN, Sarah wid. CAIN Sarah daughter, PALFREYMAN, George lodger marr., wife Ellen lodger, MASON, Ann lodger
(Age for Mary is out a bit but not far….. b. c1862)
I felt this might be significant as the 1891 census address for Patrick WHITE & son William WHITE, William REYNOLDS, wife Mary J (nee WHITE) their daughter Margaret M. 11 months was 11 Edensor Place, Chorlton-on-Medlock

Starting from the top - you are correct - where did I get the information as to the birth date and place, and father's name, for William???
In fact the only bit of evidence I have is the Marriage Cert. for Mary Reynolds to John Gallagher in 1896 when her father is shown to be Patrick Reynolds deceased, occupation shoemaker.
I have the 1891 census showing William Reynolds to be born c1862 Warrington, Lancs.
Of the 3 that appear to be siblings - REYNOLDS, William, b. Warrington, Mary Ann b. Manchs. and Sarah b. Warrington the only one with any connection is that above of her marriage in 1896.
Yes the 1891 census details you show are the right family.
Yes Mary Jane nee White did remarry to widower John Gallagher in 1907 after the death of his 1st wife Mary Reynolds, father Patrick Reynolds occ. shoemaker, deceased.
(it is very confusing with both of John Gallagher's wives being named Mary)
I have both Marriage Certificates.
The conclusion that has been reached is that John Gallagher married William Reynolds' sister Mary Ann in 1896, and once widowed c1906, he married William's widow Mary Jane nee White - William presumably having died as she is shown to be a widow on 1901 census.
I have not located a death for William Reynolds c.1894-1901 though there are 2 possiblities Chorlton Dec. qtr. 1896 and Dec. qtr. 1898.
The only place we actually have William is on that 1891 census and on the Catholic Baptism as shown on my post above stating "Their first child Margaret Mary was was born 1890 in Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, UK and was baptised in the Catholic Church using the Latin variations of names of those concerned eg Margarita Maria (Latin for Margaret Mary) Gulielmi (Latin for William) Mariae (Latin for Mary)." The other person named on that entry was that of Godmother Mary Ann Reynolds.
That information together with the sisters Sarah and Mary Ann on 1891 & 1901
- 1891 census has Mary A Reynolds b. Manch. and Sarah b. Warrington Reynolds boarding in Hulme.
I have not located Mary or Sarah any earlier.
I have not located Sarah in 1911.

1911 UK census has John Gallagher, (b. Sligo, ireland) 2nd wife Mary formerly Reynolds (nee White) b. Dublin, Ireland, John's children from 1st marr. and James Francis Reynolds Step son 19, Mary Jane Reynolds, step-daughter 17.
We know that William Reynolds 29 b.ca 1862, Warrington, Lancashire, was marr.. to Mary Jane nee White (or is shown to be on 1891 census) and we have the baptism mentioned above showing William as father, Mary Jane White as mother and Mary Ann Reynolds as Godmother.
We don't have any census record with Patrick Reynolds, shoemaker, just the marriage certificate of John Gallagher to 1st wife Mary Reynolds who above info. seems to indicate is a sister of William b. Warrington and also Sarah.
Your suggestion re possible change of name - very possible and had not been suggested previously, but have to say the thought of trying to chase that trail is intimidating.
I didn't post all this before in the hope that someone might just recognise the family and contact me....
As you can see it's confusing, but I feel there is enough to connect William, Sarah and Mary Ann Reynolds, and IF the Mary REYNOLDS who married John Gallagher in 1896 (1st wife) was their sister, then that is the connection.
I hope I haven't made it too complicated.

I'm wondering if there was a change of name .............. maybe William was not born a Reynolds, but his mother later married a Mr Reynolds, and William adopted that name?????

I have spent a lot of time trying to locate a BIRTH/BAPTISM for REYNOLDS, William c.1862 Warrington, Lancashire. Father - Patrick REYNOLDS, Occupation Shoemaker.
I am also unable to find the MARRIAGE for REYNOLDS, William to WHITE, Mary Jane (b. 1865 Dublin, Ireland) c1883-1891 UK or Ireland.
A lot of people all over have been trying to locate these 2 occasions, without success :-(
