soooooo.................

picking out the information from the above

he was born ca 1820, +/- 5 years, probably in Boston, USA

There are several family trees on ancestry that show a JOHN HICKS PARKER, born ca 1820 USA, died 31 Jul 1912 - Mangatainoka, Tararua, New Zealand

Marriage: 13 Nov 1857 - Stoke, Nelson
Spouse: Barbara Parker

Marriage to Mary Jane Robertson
1903 — Age: 83
Mangatainoka, Tararua, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand
Hick's second marriage

Most of these trees have his father as JOHN AVERY PARKER

Is this your Hicks Parker??

Have you got his name correct, or have the owners of these trees got it correct?

Thank you very much for your reply
Hicks Parker was my gt/grandfather -- dates and names were from marriage and death certificates I have, except for siblings names and date of Hicks and Dennis leaving Boston in 1841 --- these should have been fairly accurate as Hicks had a large family and long life so there should have been time to leave some clues to his earlier life ----- We only know of the 4 names of his siblings and Dennis was too young to be on a whaling ship ---- The 2 spouses partics are correct, fathers name correct, but mothers name not.
Are these trees on a free or paid site ?
And thanks again, Ted

The trees are on ancestry.co.uk ...................... a subscription site

BUT you can take out 1 free 2 week trial .......................... you do have to give credit card information, and if you do NOT tell them that you do not wish to continue with a subscription no later than 4 days before the end of the trial (ie, at about 10 days), then your credit card WILL be charged the full 1 year subscription.

Alternatively, you could take out a 1 month subscription.

To be honest with you ................. I could not manage with my ancestry subscription. However, other members will tell you that another subscription site, FindMyPast, is their preferred site :-)

OOOH! There's an article in:

Date: Sunday, February 18, 1906 Paper: Boston Herald (Boston, MA) Page: 48

Strange Story of a Husband Lost for Half a Century

that seems to back up the details from the above.

I'll TRY to PM a copy to Ted.
