Searching for information on Elizabeth J (Janie) Lewis, born around 1882, lived at 23 Bridge Street, Griffithstown Monmouthshire sometime after September 1919. Previous married to James Carroll who died at Battle of Jutland 1916. Any information on her descendants would be appreciated. tks Rona

I can't see a marriage of Elizabeth Lewis to James Carroll.

Hi Margee : In 1916 when James died my Janie's address was 1 Sunny Bank, Ford Valley, Dartmouth, she could have lived in Dartmouth or Portsmouth in the UK. She married John Lewis after she was widowed and used the name Elizabeth J Carroll on her marriage certificate. Don't know her maiden name but do know she and James were married prior to 1911 and have found a Elizabeth Holmes marriage to James Carroll in June 1909.

Her marriage cert to john Lewis should name her father then you will know her maiden name and can tie up her previous marriage

Hi: It constantly amazes me how many people on this site step forward to help out with a problem. Being on a different time zone to many of you in England I woke up to an avalance of help for which I am extremely grateful..It would appear we have found Janie Carroll. I believe the marriage in June 1904 to Elizabeth Jane Gurney was the correct one., also the 1911 which has her in Dartmouth at 27. James died aboard HMS Defence on May 16, 1916 although there is a mistake on the Plymouth
Memorial site which has his parents living in Dartmouth, the original cites his correct place of birth. James and his brother William both died on the same ship. A third brother Thomas, the youngest was a soldier born 1891 in a place called Togher, County Louth Ireland. I have not found out as yet where he died so if anyone has access to the WW1 deaths I would appreciate hearing from them. He was the son of Patrick and Alice Carroll. Once again my heartfelt thanks to all who helped.
