My grandmother was Frances Elliot before she married John Wilson. She was born in 1891 in Weardale, Wolsingham, Durham. Her father was John Elliot and her mother's maiden name was Scott (Jane Ann). Her mother died of TB in September 1891 in Weardale and she was brought up by her grandparents, John Elliot and Frances Garget in Forest and Frith, Teesdale. In the 1901 census they were living in Forest and Frith and the family consisted of, John Elliot , Grandfather aged 63, Frances Elliot, 60, grandmother, Peter E Elliot, son 24, Hannah, daughter, 28, Frances, daughter 20, George Raine, grandson 14, Frances, granddaughter, 9 (my grandmother) and Minnie, granddaughter 7 so no clues on this side of the family.

There is no record to substantiate that claim with regard to Robinson

Please don't close your mind to the possibility that the info was inaccurate, or at least, imprecise.

'Uncles' are on both sides of a family

And, if your grandmother referred to him as 'uncle'............whose uncle was he?

Any little bit of info you can provide will help us to help you

Hi, my grandad was John Wilson. My grandmother told me that the man in the photo in the army uniform was called uncle Rob so I assumed that was Robinson Wilson my grandfather's brother. I remember her showing me the photo when I was about 8 years old but i don't remember her saying what regiment he was in or when he joined the army but I do remember her telling me he was killed in the First World War.

Thank you so much for the information. I have the census information for 1911 but I couldn't find anything about him after that. I'm sure he died in action during the First World War and I will try and find out more from the information you have kindly given me.

Once again many thanks for your help.

I am trying to find out what happened to my grandfather's brother Robinson Wilson who was born in St Helens,West Auckland, Durham in1887. He was employed as a colliery joiner until he was sent to serve in the First World War. I was brought up by my grandparents and I remember when I was about 8 years old my grandmother showed me a photo of Robinson in army uniform and she told me that he never came back from the war. After my grandparents died I tried to find the photo of Robinson but unfortunately it had been lost. I have tried to find him on the Forces War Records website but as I know so little about him I have not been able to find out when he joined the Army, the regiment he was in, where he was posted to or where and when he died. Could anyone help me find out what happened to him?
