Ahh -that makes sense -Yes I found it on Ancestry. I have a full page printed out that I paid about £6 for a number of years ago from somewhere I found online. It was sent to me in the post. Thanks that makes sense

From your post @ 23:19, I'm fairly confident you are looking at the Probate Calendar.

In recent times we would have sent to the Probate reseach offices in York to purchase a copy. it used to be £6.50 but has recently gone up to £10.

Might the entry you've found on Ancestry actually be the entry on to the Probate Calendar?

It will only say where he lived, date of death (may be where he died), the date probate was granted, the name of his executor and the value of his estate.

It would not specify what was included in the estate - for that you'd need a copy of his Will which you already have.

The only valid will is the last one made. Earlier ones become void. You can make a new will as often as you like.

If he died pre 1965 and the will went to probate, then you should find it on Ancestry. After 1965 are available on a separate website.

Hi - I ordered a copy of my great grandad's will ages ago from a site (Cannot remember which one) and it came and is detailed and stamped PROVED across it and a solicitors stamp.

Now I have found another will on Ancestry for him, Same date of death etc -but the will is different -there is less info on it -and a gold watch mentioned on the other isn't mentioned at all -really odd?
could a person have more than one will?
Just curious.
