Thank you Gins and mgnv, I will investigate these sites further. I wonder if John Beswick and Sarah Kenworthy are my John Beswick's parents - the date is eminently possible. Needs a 'Parents' search.

The old IGI is still there - there are now check boxes to eliminate all the contributed records, and just look at the extracted ones, say.

However, most of the extracted records also appear in the
England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
England Marriages, 1538–1973
collections (or Scottish equivalents), augmented with many new transcriptions.

There are also now lots of new collections, like the misnamed:
England, Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Parish Registers, 1603-1910
that I referred you to (Diocese of Manchester Parish Registers would be more accurate).

Thank you mgnv. I already have all the childrens' Birth/Christening records but no marriage is showing up for John Beswick and Sarah c1798

I do miss the old IGI, it seemed to provide much more from the Parish Records.

has the following registers for Dobcross, Holy Trinity:

Baptisms, 1813-1893
Burials, 1913-1998
Marriages, 1845-1910

I don't know if they've been indexed - if not, you'll have to take the "Browse through 248,202 images" link.

Thank you Gins, obviously when the Beswicks were having their family in Dobcross they were 'Historically in Yorkshire'. Problem solved.

Dobcross appears to be next to Saddleworth, now Lancashire, so :-

Name: Mary Beswick
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 28 Aug 1803
Baptism Place: Dobcross, York, England
Father: John Beswick
Mother: Sarah
FHL Film Number: 1484391

Anybody particularly good on old boundaries?? Did Yorkshire used to stray over the pennines to Saddleworth?

Many thanks,
Frances
