Info on a DC is only as good as an informants knowledge. My Aunts registered my grandfather's death under the name of Harry when in fact he was a Henry.

Similarly, they may not have known his correct dob. For this reason the 1974 Hastings registration as posted by rootgatherer is a good contender.

Yes - registrations do appear to get lost between the local Registry and GRO. In addition, every year there are a number of unidentified bodies registered.

There is a slim chance that he might have moved overseas especially if he had extended family members already living there or if he had a skill in short supply.

If funds permit, I'd be inclined to purchase the 1959 marriage cert and if his father's details match, the 1974 Hastings death cert

Thanks for all your help in this but have already gone through several websites looking for this info. I have a full family tree but lack the info on his death, it seems to simply not be listed anywhere, I have tried all the name differences I can think of, its not a common name after all.. Any ideas why his death is not listed, have a lot of records been lost, either that or he is the worlds oldest living man?!

Perhaps he said he was younger than he was when he married as his wife was younger than him and he just stuck to his story through his life.

Both of my grandparents did this because there was a big age difference between them.

Less than 0.2% of divorce case files have survived post 1937. Just because it hasn't been mentioned, it doesn't mean that it never happened.

On the other hand, cases of bigamy are more common than you may wish to think. ;-)
