I have however found another set of children born to Patrick and Ellen which makes me think that unfortunately there were two couples.
This child, for example,

Name: Denis Mcgrath
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 29 Mar 1878
Birthplace: Cork, Ireland
Father's Name: Patrick Mcgrath
Mother's Name: Ellen Driscoll Mcgrath

could not be from the same parents as above as the birth coincides with Patrick and Edward above.

Yes, I saw that too. I wondered if maybe this first one died and her sister took over for her..........or maybe she was Ellen Mary and did not use Ellen. I wonder if there is a later marriage for Patrick?

This caught my eye and is puzzling me a bit
Is it the same couple or are there two Patricks marrying Driscoll girls in the same town?

Name: Patrick Mc Grath
Spouse's Name: Ellen Driscoll <<<<<<<
Event Date: 25 Feb 1868
Event Place: Skull, Cork, Ireland
Father's Name: Patrick Mc Grath
Spouse's Father's Name: Timothy Driscoll

Sorry
I hadn't seen that one in 1911. I don't know much about the family except through DNA, I have a 3rd cousin match to a descendant from this family and Mary Driscoll is the stand out person. Much as though the family has been explored and recorded by the family, Mary has no information.

I am keen to find a marriage to see who her father was, and where from.

That is great info above. Thank you very much. Anyone see a marriage?

I wonder why Kerry says that they 'stayed' in Ballyhebob, as they obviously didn't, which would be why I couldn't find them in the censuses using that location as a search tool

Didn't notice the difference in surname.........'specsavers' moment!

The age in 1901 is perfectly feasible for Mary to be Katie's mother.

1911 age is probably a guess

Yes Dea, Ballydehob seems to be in the Skull registration district :-)

EDIT

Schull or Skull[1] (/'sk?l/ skul; Irish: Scoil Mhuire or An Scoil)[1] is a town in County Cork, Ireland. The name derives from a medieval monastic school, of which no trace remains.

Sorry Jacqueline. That was me but it was the wrong marriage. Senior moment, I had it in my head that we were looking for a marriage to Patrick McCarthy instead of McGrath. Apologies again.

Dea

It 'is' strange - I seem to remember it took place in 1875 though - registration district was down as 'SKULL'.

Someone posted the marriage..........and has now deleted it. How very odd!

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 14 Dec 2014 08:49

Perhaps the 'last of the babies' was an illegitimate grandchild?

You refer to census records..........posting them on here for our info would be helpful.

Driscoll Report 13 Dec 2014 22:15

I am trying to find any information about her prior to marriage, or even find a marriage for them.

They can be seen in the Ballydehob area of Schull, and they stayed there. I believe other family members went to other places including London. Very keen to find the Driscoll side of that family.

Marry and Patrick must have married in the early 1870's and there are a lot of marriage registrations I need to narrow down, but church records might be more helpful.

They had a number of children
Mary 1875
Patrick 1878
Edward 1878
Michael 1880
James 1881
William 1883
Katie 1885

Maybe there are some baptism records that might help identify her family?
It is Mary Driscoll who I am trying to find any information about. She must have been born between 1845 - 1855 but the census results later have her the same age as her husband, but that would make her too old to be having the last of the babies I would think.

Any assistance would be most appreciated.
