If he had a Canadian passport, could he have been born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada please?

Do you have the marriage certificate to see if he gives his father's name and occupation please?

Could this be his arrival in England? He's heading to Rayleigh Rd., Thundersleigh, Essex. He's a clerk. Country of last permanent residence was England.

Hi,
re John Jones
It clearly states on his Canadian passport that he was born in Edmonton England on 17/8/1907. On the marriage cert his father is also John Jones. Neither seem to have middle names. At time of his marriage, John is 26 and a labourer. His father is given as Deceased. That's all I have. It's not as if Jones is a common name!!!

The age is right for that one on the UK incoming passenger list. Does that address mean anything to you?

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 14 Dec 2014 17:02

This fellow arriving in Canada gives name of nearest relative or friend in England as freind Mr. Manning, " St. Gemmy's", Raeplington Rd., Thundersley, Essex. (Same place as the one arriving in UK in 1930). He's also born Edmonton, England.

Passenger list from Margee looks like a possible- he was a bus conductor

Name: John Jones
Birth Date: Jul 1907
Date of Registration: Mar 1979
Age at Death: 71
Registration district: Southend on Sea
Inferred County: Essex
Volume: 9
Page: 3551

Above is the correct death:
JONES, John of 31 Southfield Dv, Hadleigh, Benfleet, Essex died 27 February 1979. Probate Ipswich 10 May £15876

https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/Calendar?surname=jones&yearOfDeath=1979&page=65#calendar

The death only includes a birth of July 1907- usually they have full DOB. Maybe there was some confusion.

Gritty

Gritty Report 14 Dec 2014 17:12

Who were the witnesses to the marriage?

Malcolm

Malcolm Report 15 Dec 2014 20:21

Thanks everyone,
GRO cannot find a birth for John Jones from 1906 to 1908, so maybe the 1909 one is right.
Gritty: how did you find out he was a bus conductor?
Margee: where do you get your ship data from especially with those personal comments?
Kind regards
