If his wife was with him she would not show on the electoral register as she was under 30.

Why do you think that Roy was born in Wandsworth?

If you can't find any info, I'm afraid you can't have any idea of where he was born

Who witnessed his marriage?

Did he give an occupation for his 'father'?

If he was actually under age when he married, the lie could have been to avoid the issue of consent, especially if he was illegitimate

By the time he died, it wouldn't have mattered when he was born

This passenger list has Amos, Mary Ann and William Hoyle and Ellen Buckley but no Roy. Ellen says she's going to her daughter.

On that 1911 census Amos & Mary Ann Hoyle are listed as brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Found a Roy Meredith GIBSON B 1897 Toxteth Lancashire.Roy Meredith is not common for first names too add to the mix Bob xx

Perhaps he was illegitimate and "made up" a father to save face in front of the "in-laws". This was often the case with illegitimate children.

Information from marriage certificates is only as accurate as the person giving the information wants it to be. You can't take it as gospel.

My grandparents both lied about their ages on their marriage certificate. He knocked 3 years off his age and she added 5 years to hers. This made a 19 year age difference look a slightly better 11 year difference.

Perhaps Roy wanted to seem older than his bride?

I can't find a birth for that name at the time you say he was born.

You say he was born about 1897 but if he died in 1927 aged 26 he must have been born about 1901.
