We have hit a brick wall on Robert Kelly....
My notes...
1881 Census...Lived with complete family at 73 Broad St., Peterhead.
1891 Census...73 Broad St., Peterhead...aged 13yrs...Message Boy.

There is a Robert Kelly in the 1901 Census at St. Machar, Aberdeen aged 22 yrs...Not him as census says he is a nephew of a Simon Michael and Jane Michael...all born Aberdeen...
1911 Census...There is a Robert Kelly aged 32 in the Merchant Navy...On ship "Hildebrand"....Not him as census says he was born in England.

Also searched for a marriage for him...Viewed 3 on S.P. and not him!!
Difficult to trace Robert Kelly...
Looked at several Robert Kellys in the 1911 Census...not found.

He may have also emigrated to the USA or elsewhere, because his brothers Alexander and David Kelly emigrated to the USA. (have got all their details now.)

Can anyone help in finding Robert Kelly born 1878 in Peterhead.

Could he have been in the army in 1901? If posted abroad would not be on the census. Also check Irish census 1901/1911.

Thanks for the reply Andy.
I haven't checked Army records nor Irish records.
The unfortunate thing is that none of the Kelly descendants seem to know anything about Robert....Even his brother's Alexander and David Kelly descendants, who emigrated to the USA at he beginning of the 20th.C. and who I have traced...
see "KELLY from Peterhead to Oakland California" in the search ancestors....

Maybe he died?

Did he have a middle name?

Ian

Ian Report 18 Nov 2014 21:46

Hi Catherine,

I have searched Scotland's People for deaths...nothing.
No middle name unfortunately.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Jan,

A possibility, but where to go from here.?

Cannot find him in Scotland, so best bet either he emigrated to USA or perhaps he worked on a ship as the men from Peterhead were seafarers.
We have several Huttons on our tree who were whalers then and some lost their lives at sea...The Huttons were ship carpenters and constructors, late 19th.C and early 20th.C.

Ian, where did his brothers settle? If he did emigrate, it's possible he ended up there too, if only for a while. This certainly happened with my Canadian relatives!
