I only do a month PAYG at a time and make sure it doesn't auto-renew! Yes it is not the best...but it has its uses.....my recent post about the possibility of a Naval Reserve record for my grandfather...the guy from Pentyrch "Master" of a vessel...was awarded the OBE so definitely not my grandad!!!!!

Had a quick look at the trees on Ancestry...and as soon as I see a death in 1846 followed by a census in 1851 I know it is not worth looking further :-)

Thank you for your input Hope Jude doesn't subscribe

I have not been able to find John after 1841, I've gone through so many deaths on scotlandspeople, followed the wrong family.

As I said 1841 census he was living in Linlithgow with wife and daughter Stuart Cowie McAlpine down as son which is understandable a lot of people doing this tree have him born in Linlithgow and dying in 1845, but reading his will his wife is Margaret Spence, mine is Margaret Donaldson

This is why I was asking for the Forces record yet again that brick wall remains standing

Thank you

I took out a year's subscription to FWR a few months ago when they had a special offer on. Thank heavens I didn't pay full price! It has to be one of the worst sites I've ever come across.

It has no primary source information whatsoever, it only collates transcriptions from what is available elsewhere. It is also proven to have inaccurate information about WW1 medals etc.

Don't go there!

Jude - you might still want to give that site a try but I have to warn you that there is no extra info when you open up the 'records' - not much more than a transcription of the name, reg no etc.

Totally NOT worth paying for !

You have to pay - it's £8.95 for one month - I may get a month's worth later (I have a few things I want to look at). If I do I'll see what I can find

Has anyone got membership to the War forces record site please
It will let you look but not at the records unless your a member

I have a John McAlpine b 1785c Scotland in the 1841 census he was 55. living in Linlithgow but not born there. He married in 1807 in Haddington He was in the Berwickshire militia,

I'm just hoping that one of these days I'll get a bit more on him like where he was born?
Hence the War Forces site

Thank you
