Does anyone have info on Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry for 1st World war record?

MarieCeleste Report 9 Nov 2014 09:40

Nancy, are you referring to information about the regiment in general, or are you trying to find out information about a specific individual?

I am trying to find out if my grandfather, William Newby Harris, served at Gallipoli. I have a photo of him at what could be there.

The original document says he served in Malta (July 1915 - August 1917); Salonika ( Aug 1917 - Nov 1917); Italy (Nov 1917 - Feb 1919).

The Gallipoli campaign was between 25 April 1915 and 9 January 1916, when he was in Malta - so it may be that he wasn't involved in it.

I have just two pictures of him with Aussie soldiers and a nurse . It was obviously Christmas time, by the tent decorations. Where would I get the 10 "images" mentioned in the post from ArgyllGran?

Too late for any military records to be on line

His next of kin can apply for his records...............IF he served.

They cost £30.00, unless the applicant is the man's widow

Get some accurate info as a starting point...........find his birth on freebmd

ADDED

His birth is shown above....so why do you say 'about 1912'?

Please acknowledge that you have seen all the info found for you

Nancy - you were asking about the 10 images mentioned in my earlier post.

They are the images of the 10 pages of the record.

As DetEcTive says, if you sign up to Ancestry you can view all the pages.

You have just thanked everyone, Nancy, and that's all that's necessary.

No need for individual replies, although, for future reference, if you did want to contact someone individually, just click on their name at the top of their post, and send a message on the form which will then appear.

Coming back to William Newby Harris.

If you scan back, the medal record card said

Theatre of war first served - (2B) Balkans 16.8.15

The following site http://stoswaldbollington.org.uk/pages/WW1_terminology.html says

"The following codes are found on (for example) medal index cards showing the qualifying theatre of war for the purpose of issuing campaign medals, etc.
2a The Balkans (except Gallipoli): >>>>>>2b Gallipoli<<<< "

So may be he did serve in Gallipoli after all :-D
