Looking to explore a Rel's career at sea and though have detail of several voyages, from New South Wales crew lists. Wondered whether there were other such lists that might add detail.. Samuel Woonton ( often misspelt ) born in Jersey in 1850.. Seems to have worked the UK / South America / Australia & New Zealand run though may have started out in Jersey or had brief employment in the Australia / New Zealand trade, from the mid 1860's through to 1890, even '91. Stayed in Sail through this time, no transition to steam.. Any tips, leads etc appreciated.

Hi Margee. Yes, the ‘Earl Dalhousie’, July 1878, and prior to that, July 1877, in New South Wales, transcribed as Wanton, aboard the ‘Bunowdale’ with a year in between.. time enough for another voyage
After the ‘Earl Dalhousie’, now have on the ‘Victoria’ ( N.S.W ) in Aug 1878 but then its another year, till Dec ’79, when aboard the ‘St Leonards’, arriving London in March 1880, followed by Aug ’80, aboard the ‘Parramatta’, back to Sydney in Dec ’80.
His papers in this period say he also crewed on the ‘Prosperity’ but no detail found, perhaps between March & Aug.’80 or one of the earlier ‘gaps’
Dec ’80 also has him aboard the ‘Wistaria’, in New South Wales but then there is another Gap.. till Nov 1883 when’s he’s on the ‘Highmoor’ followed by another break.. of near two years, as it’s not til Dec ’85 that he departs New Zealand in the ‘Caberfeidh’ , with single voyages aboard the ‘Trafalger’ and the ‘Thomas Stevens’ through ’86 & ’87.
Next aboard the ‘Hawkesbury’ which you refer to, and the ‘Samuell Plimsoll’ & the ‘Nereus’ in ’88.
There is also an entry in N.S.W. in Aug ’87, as aboard the ‘Blackadder’ but that conflicts with his time on the ‘Hawkesbury’
It’s another 2 years before he’s on the "Waimate", departing London in February 1890, arriving Auckland 29 May 1890. That’s a find of tonight which extends his years at sea but leaves another gap.
Another possible is a J. Wooton aboard the Schooner ‘Adolphus’, in the original, look more like an S than a J and the surname was often misspelt.
He sure is a ‘moving target’

I know it's not what you were looking for but in case you haven't got it this is his baptism record.

Baptism 16th June 1850
Birth 30th April 1850
Father Edward Wanton
Mother Elizabeth Mary Picot
Father's occupation Labourer
Godparents Robert Haynes and the mother

If he began his seafaring career in Jersey he may be on the Seaman's Benefits register - I'll check it next time I'm in the Societe Jersiaise.
