Greenham Common is the omly USA base know on the Hampshire/ Berkshire border. I think I will leave t his search for now & badger the HCC authorities again for them to find my File they must have. Thanks for all the advice anyway.

"Wild card being a plantation owner's name carried down through slavery families."
"possibly USA Deep South or Caribbean."

After WW2 Afro-Caribbean workers were encouraged to come to the UK to help rebuild the economy - although its unlikely that the ethnic origins would be mentioned, might it be worth exploring the incoming passenger lists?

Would there have been any American bases in Hampshire where your parents might have met?

I was not brought up with my natural family. Since I've been in touch with my bio family I have discovered lots & lots but have drawn a blank as to my father's name as my half sisters were far too young under 6 to remember much only vague things. after my father came on the scene the marriage fell apart & they divorced but by this time I was born & put in a CH. under HCC. their father would not discuss their mother or me with them & HCC children's dpt has 'lost my file' with info in. so now I have drawn a blank. My mother who was half German was Ruth H Vincent nee Lee & she remarried to another man & died in 1979. Does this make any sense.

Sorry Sheil, sounds nosy but sometimes it does help if we can get a clear picture.
I don't understand your last posting?
'it is through this family , a half sister I was given the name of Shackleton'

Could you give us your moms name please?

Sheil

Sheil Report 5 Nov 2014 17:13

No nothing, & mother is deceased & was married to another man at the time & it is through this family , a half sister I was given the name of Shackleton but that is all I have.

Yes Jan, I checked the image and couldn't see the name either, I thought I must have missed it!

So, just to check, the object of your search is Mr. O'Connor, but you are hoping if you track down Itchie Shackleton this might offer some clues? As O'Connor is such a common name.
I assume you know absolutely nothing else about your father - no address for example?

I'm trying to eliminate Ichie Shackleton as could be barking up wron tree, so trying to find out where he was born.

Gins, have you checked the image for the above? I can't see where they have got 'ichie' from!!

Hi Gins. thanks for replying. He is a possible link to a Mr O'Connor (not Irish) believed to be 'Mates' in the late 1940's. Mr O'Connor, unfortunately no first name known, is on my birth certificate & definitely not from UK. Wild card being a plantation owner's name carried down through slavery families. Ichie / Ackee /akee Shackleton is my only link really.but even that is vague.

The surname suggests links with the north of England

How have you come about him please?

Edit: ?

Thanks brummiejan for replying. Not sure of first name spelling. could be Akee / Ackee. or just a nickname.

You might do well to put USA/Caribbean in your heading as only certain members will be able to advise you about these areas.
How sure are you of the spelling?

A very wild card but Does anyone know of a Ichie Shackleton born 1918 possibly USA Deep South or Caribbean. This man may have lived in the Southampton Area or Hampshire area for a short time in 1947-50 & had a friend O'Connor (don't know first name) could have been in the USA forces or over in England to study ?
