This Samuel Buckley was my great great great grandfather. He was a JP and chairman of the Birmingham and Midland Bank and ran Samuel Buckley & Co in Birmingham.
His parents were Samuel and Catherine. His father was a captain in the Isle of Ely Militia. There was also a Captain Samuel Buckley 1674 - 1741 who was also in the Isle of Ely Militia who I assume was an earlier ancestor of mine.
Does anyone know anything more about these Samuel Buckleys in Ely?

Is this his baptism? Different mother to the one you say.

Thanks for all that. All interesting stuff.
I knew about the Ely and Littleport riot in 1816. The Captain Samuel Buckley involved with this must have been my great great great great grandfather.
The two different mother's names for the baptism are curious. I suppose the mother's name could have been Mary, but I wonder if there is confusion with the name of the church?
I don't know Cambridgeshire, but the Samuel mentioned in the marriage in Newmarket seems close enough to be a possible link between the two Captain Samuels.
I have a quite a lot of information about Samuel born in 1806 and some bits and pieces passed down through the family. Some of this must have belonged to Francis Seddon Bolton and Sarah Eliza Bolton nee Francis whose daughter Emily Katherine married a Samuel Buckley born in 1870.
It's noticeable that the Samuel Buckley born in 1806 gets younger in later censuses, until by 1871 he was born in 1810!

A Samuel Buckley was buried on 15th January 1709/10 at St Sepulchre in Cambridge. I suppose he could be also be a relative.
