Nancy was (and is even today) a commonly-used diminutive for Ann.

Thank you for all you have sorted out I was looking at that 41 census but with malcolm not being on it and yes this family seem to change their name married as Ann Pollitt and then on childrens birth Nancy

That is why I was uncertain about the family but seeing every thing together I think it is the right family

Thank you <3

I tried on Ancestry for Malcolm in 1841 nothing came up. But their was one for Nancy
but no Father If it's the right family her mother was Nancy Pollitt and their are 2 siblings at least for Nancy Rebecca 1827& 1833 one must have died John 1825

I'll look into this census

Than you for your time

You haven't mentioned WHEN these people were born, or why you think knowing who lived in that Street is likely to help you

What are you actually looking for?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 29 Oct 2014 15:09

336 people living in Ancoats Street in 1851. House numbers NOT recorded

jax

jax Report 29 Oct 2014 14:59

Probably not easy to find that out ....women wouldnt be on the ER and if they did'nt own the house again would'nt be listed

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 29 Oct 2014 14:58

I would think it unlikely that such info could be found. You must realise, I'm sure, how limited the Electoral Franchise was in those days

What were their respective occupations?

For all anyone knows, they could have been lodging at those addresses purely as a convenience to save on paying for two sets of Banns

Hi
I've just got a marriage certificate for William Watt and Nancy Kennedy
William was born in Kendal Westmorland still there in 1841,His address on marriage certificate is 23 Garden St Ancoats Manchester.
Nancy Kennedy was born in Stockport Cheshire her address on Marriage certificate is 11 Holland St Ancoats Manchester her father was Malcolm an overlooker
wit:- John Kennedy & Elizabeth Kennedy

Is their any way of finding out who lived at 11 Holland St Ancoats 1849 as I haven't got anything on this family other than what is on the certificate

Thank you
