Do you know when and where they were born and who their parents were ? |

Richard was born 1814 and William 1816 both in Ribchester, Lancs. Their father Thomas died in May 1822 and their mother Margaret in Dec 1822. There was an infant sister Ann (Nancy) who died in 1823. |

there are censuses with workhouse children as belonging to institutes . |

They would be adults by the time of the 1841 census. |

Richard is married by 1841 and living in Ribchester. Perhaps he had remained ther after his parents died and lived with relatives. |

Richard Barton on the 1841 and 1851 is a Plasterer ...... that indicates he was set to a trade, ie apprenticed |

Ribchester was in Preston poor-law union. You might check if there are any workhouse records available, maybe in the Lancs R O in Preston. |
