Hi,

My 3x great grandfather James McStocker was born in Antrim, Belfast in 1791 . How do I find the exact date that he was born and information about his parents etc. he was a tailor until he was 20 when he joined the 52nd foot brigade and fought in the peninsular wars and Waterloo.

He married Catherine Moore in 1822 I think he was still in the military at this time and I would like to find any paperwork related to their wedding so that I can find out more about his wife.

I would be very grateful for any help,

Thank you,

Catherine

Do you know if I can get a copy of the marriage licence?

Been reading through his army records to see if they gave any clues but nothing showing about his early life so didn't help.

What I don't understand is what Catherine was doing in Dublin in 1822, when 1851 census states she was born in Wales. Only thing I can think of is that her father was also in the army and was also stationed in Ireland as James did ?

Not sure if you can get a copy of an Irish marriage licence will take a look.

EDIT:- checked where the 52nd were serving and they did serve in Dublin in 1821-1823:-
