David, it is better to post on the thread than to send PMs (unless the info is sensitive). That way everyone can see what has been posted.

The informant on the death I posted might help, but you will need to buy the cert to see it.

In what sense are you trying to trace him?

What have you done yourself in the way of research?

You say he 'was' your father, so when did he die?

And if he's deceased, tell us his DOB

With the above info, you will be able to find the family on the 1911 census.

If you use freebmd, you will find two brothers, the earliest b 1914. This would appear to be the parents' marriage:

Hello everyone, I am trying to trace a Horace Heppenstall born in Yorkshire in 1917, he was my father. He moved to the south of england and then to London where i was born in 1949. I know there were two Heppenstalls born in 1917. Hope this little bit of information helps, and thank you. Regards, Dave.
