thank you all for the prompt response.
from my sisters in law I knew there were 8 children 5 boys 3 girls and the boys , so the information is great as had only names. elizabeth is a new one but had also a female slot with no name .
the boys went into foundry work and were brassfounders and journeymen. this took them between dublin and dumbarton for work.
foundry at 243 yarnhall street dublin in thoms directory up until 1922 but not further .
work in shipyards and babcocks in dumbarton
some of them stayed on in dublin with their families others came back to scotland and one family to australia.
I am married to the youngest of five children whose grand father is george alexander menzies born in dublin 1878. and my inlaws where of a great age and have passed on. Only had the family talk to go on so all this info is of a great help.
think marriage cert is the way to go next.
thank you all from Hamburg germany
have a good day

Until you buy a copy of the marriage cert (you can download it from Scotlands people for a very reasonable sum), there is no way of knowing if this is the correct John, or, indeed, if the censuses above are the right Margaret.
