Find Ancestors

Have been searching for ages to find out what ship James Stott b 1830 in Aberdeen migrated to Australia on. Keep running into dead ends :-(.
I think he arrived here in either 1851 or 1852.
Any help to find out this would be greatly appreciated.

Bruce had PMed back to me a couple of times with thanks for explaining how to find his threads and reply

he asked today me whether asking for help with a specific question would be a good idea ... I think he doesn't realize yet how much help can be got here! (Bruce started out this week asking about how to hire a researcher and everybody said no no, ask us!)

but before I saw his PM today and could get back to him and suggest just continuing an existing thread, I see he has done that here ... those time zone differences ...

so yes as Jacqueline says it is a good idea to look at a couple of previous threads but it would probably help Bruce to have the information about these specific people collected here

I think I found a George and other children of George-1828 (the son of ??) in South Africa in this thread:

but of course it can't be certain without more investigation


and for Bruce, remember that people will post some info here that you already know, it is so others reading have the same information you have, such as about the baptisms of the people whose descendants you are asking about, just to confirm the details

Now to be more specific. I need help tracing the following in Scotland Aberdeen:
James Stott b c 1780 married Elspet Rodger b c 1780
Had children
Isobel Stott b 1801 Needs to be traced
James Stott b 1803 Does not need tracing
George Stott b 1806 Needs to be traced
Robert Stott b 1812 Needs to be traced
Because of gaps I suspect that there may have been other brothers/sisters but can't find any at this stage
