To all of you wonderful people
On my trip to Scotland I found out the following
James Stott dob c 1780 and wife Elspet Rodger dob c 1780
Had the following children
Isobel Stott dob 1801 James Stott 1803 - 1895 George Stott dob 1806 Robert Stott dob 1812
I need help with all but James
Did James and Elspet have other children?
When did the above marry , who did they marry , what children they had and when did they die?
I realise that this is a tall order but this dumb, geriatric Aussie will appreciate any help he can get.
Thanking whoever in anticipation
Bruce ;-)

After I have absorbed this info I will request some very specific help.
I have only just returned from Scotland where I obtained some very valuable help from long lost rellies and was taken to see a old family home and grave site. The Scots really friendly and helpful people.
Once again thank you everyone.
Regards
Bruce <3

gosh I'm sorry, Jacqueline, google didn't sort the threads into 'started' and 'replied' ... I guess maybe I should have but I figured the task wasn't too difficult for anyone interested ...

I have just added to Bruce's thread here

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/trying_to_find/thread/1115340

in case he still needed a boost on his South African side

I will send him a PM

Many of the threads indicated above are merely those to which Bruce replied...........

This is one he initiated, which is probably of more use

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1083451

Its title is 'Descendants of James Stott and Elspeth Ross

I copy below the request. Bruce didn't return to it

I believe that some of their descendents migrated from Scotland (Aberdeen Area) to South Africa. In particular descendents of their son George Stott (b c 1828) who married Jane Tunbull and was the only child to remain in Scotland when the rest of the family migrated to Australia. They had the following children George b 1867, Elizabeth b 1869, Jane b 1871, James b 1873, Jessie b 1876, William be 1878, William b 1880, Robert b 1882 and Frank b 1885. If anyone has any information about any of these in particular the South African connection I would be most grateful to have it.
Regards
Bruce

Knowing that these people moved away from Scotland is useful

Spend your money wisely Bruce ! It's better to use it for certs to verify some bmds to keep yourself on the right track rather than take at face value what some paid researcher may come up with .
At least if you buy your own certs you will know what you have found is correct

:-D

edit

and of course I meant to say the same thing, unpaid helpers working together are a much better choice than spending money on one person!

The various sites specifically prohibit the use of their info for financial gain

Ask for help on here, and it will be freely given, if the info is available

How far have you got yourself?

presumably, you've asked for help before.........

Hi Bruce

There are a lot of members on GR (these boards) that will help you for 'free'

Just add the details of what you know about your family and what you hope to find, start from 'facts'

:-)
