Find Ancestors

Hi, can anyone help I am trying to find out about John Donovan 1849 and his wife Johanna 1851-1887. I found them in the 1881 census living in Merthyr but cant find births etc as they were both born in Ireland .Can I find any info from Ireland as I am new to this thank you.susan

Their son Cornelius was born in Wales in 1875 ..................... so we may assume that John and Johanna moved to Wales some time between 1868 and 1875 .............


unfortunately there are no shipping records from Ireland to England ......... the ships are more ferries, and records were often not kept.

It gives a better indication of his birth place, but I wonder if he meant he had been married 14 years when his wife died? His sister born same place.

Rootsireland.ie returns 1 result for a baptism of John Donovan, father Cornelius in Co Cork, in 1846. But you would need credits to view the record to establish if it is the correct one.

If you apply for the birth records of any of their children born in England or Wales it will have the Mother's maiden name on it, for confirmation of the marriage posted.
