George is my father and he was 36 when I was born. I am sure he was married before but don't know who to or if he had any children. I would like to know more of his earlier life.

Watts was the mother's maiden name as well as her second married name. A recipe for confusion

Hi Jacqueline yes I have all the info you have mentioned. Yes he is on my birth cert. Yes my mothers maiden name was Watts too, also my grandfathers on both side had same first name too but different middle names. My father was 36 when I was born which is rather old. We never had much family contact on my dads side so its a blank.
George was born Wheatley Oxford. I have not tried freebmd as yet, will it help me reaserch 1940's and 1950's.

Your best bet is get a copy of the marriage cert

As he didn't marry your mother till 1970, one has to think he had other commitments.

But don't make assumptions based solely on his age.....my father was 46 when I was born, and he was married only once
