Richard Rivers - Eynsford, Kent, England

On Ancestry under Wills, England and Wales, Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills, 1384 - 1858, there is the will of Richard Rivers, probate date 24th April, 1751.

On the second page of the will about twenty odd lines down there is a mention of his nephew Thomas ????????, Son of his late Sister Sarah. Can anyone read the surname? Does it end in "kins"?

The will is wonderful because it appears he died without children so he names his siblings and their children as well as his wife. I believe that his brother Henry was my
gt.gt.gt. grandfather.

Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

Very difficult to read but he is the son of his sister sarah who was deceased
The last letters could be ... kins

Maybe you can find her married name

Looking further down the page it looks like the first letter is a H

So maybe the name is Hutchins

It looks possible

I was going to say the same Shirley,it looks like Hutchins to me too. :-)

I based that on the way the H is in Henry too.

I agree with Shirley because if you look below Thomas at the name Henry Edwards thats the same as the surname for Thomas.

Thanks for all the help. Yes, Hutchins seems to be the name, unfortunately I cannot find the marriage of Sarah, yes her birth was 1700 Eynsford, nor can I find a Thomas Hutchins born at the right time to a mother Sarah.

The will mentioned above is of Sarah wife of Richard Rivers.

A previous will, that of Thomas Rivers of Eynsford, probate date 12th May, 1736, also names Richard and his brothers. I believe that Thomas was the son of Thomas, brother of Richard.

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks Chris - our posting must have crossed. Have had a look at freereg and familysearch.org and found two Sarahs born to Thomas and Sarah. The first baptised 20th Feb. 1725, buried 8th April, 1726. The second baptised 17th September, 1727. The death in 1728 seems to be Sarah, sister of Richard.

Once again, many thanks
