Thank you for your help. Emma Brown married Cornelius Varney in 1869 but had had 7 children before they married as Cornelius was married to some one else but lived with Emma.

Looks like a trip to Syston or Leicester then.

A search at the FS catalog reveals they haven't filmed the parish records for Syston, just the Bishop's Transcripts. The BTs are supposed to be the church's own backup copy of the old parish records, but there's no indication of how complete they are.

Sorry no not the Selston ones, I should have said Emma Brown was christened on 15 July 1832 at St Mary's in Nottingham. I did have them on 1841 census but lost it and I think it said that Joseph was not born in county but 1851 says Nottingham and 1861 census as Syston Leicestershire so that's where I want to look first for Joseph birth.

Hi All,
anyone with access to Syston Records, Looking for birth/christening of Joseph Brown abt 1791 by 1831 he was in Nottingham with wife Sarah who was born Derby abt 1791.

Known children were Emma born 1831, Eliza born and died 1834 Joseph born 1836 died 1839 all in Nottingham
Emma was my 3rd great grand mother.
