Rootgather- have a search, if you see anything or want me to look anything up, let me know. It used to be a credit based site- and cost me a fortune!, but since changing to subscription it's been so much easier (and cheaper) to find relatives. I just buy a month at a time when I know I'm going to have the time to research.

Well done Gritty! Lots of information there.

Think I will have to look at a sub for that site you are using and see if I can find some of my Irish ancestors.

It looks like if this is your William, he must have travelled to Australia between 1882 and 1892

This looks like William in 1882 in Limerick- note his address is the same as given by both David Gough and Elizabeth Gough on their marriages:

Irish Petty Sessions Court Registers 1828-1912 Transcription

name(s) Wm Gough
Date 13/10/1882
Role Defendant
Court Limerick City
Residence Clare St
County Limerick
Country Ireland
Record set Irish Petty Sessions Court Registers 1828-1912

He was in court on a charge of assaulting Private John Timms on the 8th Oct 1882- the case was dismissed.

Chris- there's quite a lot of information here, take your time looking through it, and see what postcards, pictures, letters, addresses you have in family your stuff. If you have any further information (even small stuff), let us know, and I'll take another look.

I do have further info on William's nephews and nieces (birth's etc) and a little more info on his brother David- I won't put it up now as I think it will get too confusing, but if you want it let me know.

Hi you guys are great , Yes Marriage certificate says what you have Gins only says North Sydney. His father's name was John says he was a farmer & his mother was Bridget looks like Breen or Brien. Does this help ? Where do you find this info ? when I searched Limerick can't seem to find anything obviously looking in wrong places. Was Bridget Gough married to John Gough ? If so that is my connection. Not sure if there were other children only William that we know of..Where are you guys I am in Australia? Are you in Ireland ? My wife is currently in Ireland hoping to visit some cousins on the Murphy side of family in Kiskeam probably next week . All of this is her family just trying hard to find out about the Goughs we have plenty of history on Murphys.Thanking you all for replies you have given me hope...

From NLA Trove - might be a coincidence ashe would have been 47 in 1909

The Sydney Morning Herald, Friday 17 September 1920
IN DIVORCE.
(Before Mr. Justice Gordon.)
GOUGH v GOUGH.
Vera Gough (formerly Byrnes) sought a dissolution of her marriage with William Joseph Gough, on the ground of desertion. The marriage was celebrated at Sydney on September 1, 1909, according to the rites of the Roman Catholic Church. A decree nisi, returnable in six months, was granted. Mr. Toose, instructed by Messrs. Minter, Simp- son, and Co., appeared for the petitioner.

If you do have the info on his marriage and family it might be useful to post here -esp parents names :-)
