Thanks for that and the tip about searching all records. I think I was being too specific and was getting rather frustrated at nothing coming up.

When you say Edward Charles looks to be the illigitimate son of Edward and Sarah, which Edward are you referring to?

Gritty you are a wonder. Thank you. I have just signed up for FMP but a search I did came up with nothing on the military side at least. I obviously need to play some more, but a big thank you for what you have done. I shall sort through it in slower time to make sure it is the right man.

Kind regards,
Nicola :-D

Edit: Checked the GRO page and it is spelt as 'Shires' but it could have been a spelling error at the time of registration

There is an Edward Shires born at the same time, in Guildford so maybe not your man

I am trying to locate Edward Shier (sometimes spelt differently) after 1881. At that time he was in the 4th QD Hussars at Frimley, he married Elizabeth Bacon in 1882 and had children with her from 1880 to 1892, although the last child did not have a father named on her birth certificate. The children were born in various places including Aldershot, Norfolk and Chichester and I believe he was in the Army at these times. Cannot find a death for him or military records. Anyone have any ideas please?

Nicola
