I don't think Mary Brooks re-married. The step father mentioned is to the bridegroom not the bride

Also the death Ann posted doesn't seem to be the son of Thomas A D & Mary Brooks

Could be the marriage of his daughter in 1891, which might indicate he was married before the 1875 marriage:
