Please, I need some help with my wife's gt uncle. He married into the family in Middlesbro' 1917q4, but was killed soon after:
Rank:Private Service No:200601 Date of Death:12/04/1918 Age:40 Regiment/Service:Durham Light Infantry 1st/5th Bn. Panel Reference: Panel 8 and 9. Memorial:PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL Additional Information: Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elwick; husband of Grace Elwick, of 415, Newport, Middlesbrough, Yorks. http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead.aspx
I don't have 1911 for Grace Benson, nor the 1954 probate for Grace Elwick, but I'm OK for Grace otherwise.

There are hits for Wm on Ancestry for his WW1 medal card, and the UK, Soldiers Died in the Great War, 1914-1919.

Many thanks to you all - all those hits were just the sort of thing I was needing
I missed her on 1911, never dreaming she would work across the country, and I never knew of her marr until my sub had expired. I only found her married name when I found her gravesite in Ince Cemetery. She's buried with her parents and Auntie Annie (Elizabeth Ann). I've heard from my wife's older siblings, and they recall visiting their aunts (they lived together from the 1930s on), and there being a photo of Grace's hubby in uniform on the mantle, but they knew not to ask abt him - it just made Grace quite upset.
What really triggered my queries is my bro-i-l contributes to the British Legion, and this year (100th WW1 anniv'y), he was told he could have someone's name placed on a small wooden cross that's going to be placed somewhere - I'm sketchy on the details. Anyway, I was asked to help find out more abt Wm.
******* Please, can any one give me info on the two military hits for William?

alviegal - thanks for that. No, I hadn't googled - our Pat was going to do that - I think she must have just added the 201562 post. She's out now, childminding my grand-kids, but I'll call her in a couple of hours when she gets home for dinner.
