They don't make it easy do they!
I checked the 1871 census and Ernest age 3 and Annie age 1are on the census with James and Harriet!

Jane...The 1871 Census does show Ernest with Harriet and James ....given Harriet's maiden name was Bishop the only alternative to that not being Ernest *Burke* is that a sister of Harriet's married a "Birks" and they also named their child Ernest...!

Thank you for the above. Interesting re above. Re John T Burke your info explains why he was in Ireland.
Re Ernest his parents are James and Harriet Burke.
Will recheck 1871 census.

1904-1906 4th. Battalion Militia ( The Lancashire Fusiliers) was stationed at Tipperary Town Barracks....from what I understand this Battalion.was disbanded 1906 so its very possible the John T Burke listed above is who you are looking for... only by getting his Marriage Cert.would you be able to confirm this

John Burke born ?Penistone Yorkshire in 1878. Son of James and Harriet Burke. Moved to Manchester prior to their youngest childs birth (Frederick W 1886).
Last information we have re John is the 1901 census, (Chatham Private/Infantry).
Haven't found anything further, such as regiment, length of service,death,discharge,marriage etc.
We would be grateful for any information.
