Find Ancestors

I have been researching Arthur Whitehead born 1879 Wolverhampton and his wife Elizabeth Abram on behalf of my half sister as they were her grandparents. We have a both cert for the baby born 1901 shown as Ernest on the census but he was registered as Arthur. Arthur and Elizabeth went on to marry in 1908 and have three more children, one of whom was my half sister's mother. If you would like more information please contact me.

I agree, and that marriage may not even be them, although would be good if only to eliminate.

They could have left the clildren and moved on - she may be with a different partner under his name. Really difficult and may be impossible to trace, the only constant is Arthur, but he could have assumed a different name.

Bottom line, without the details from the marriage certificate, anything on Elizabeth / Lizzie would be pure guesswork.

The parents married in 1872, her name was Halsall - as confirmed by births on Lancashire bmd

Added: although mother Jane is a widow in 1911, she has written 8 children, 1 has died. The dead child was Thomas Halsall Abram born 1880, died 1881.

Someone ( Chris_Morris_) has a tree on Ancestry with your Grandfather in- Joseph born 1903 son of Elizabeth Abram and Arthur Whitehead. They also have two other siblings listed for Joseph, one is a female (listed as private) and the other is an Arthur, born 1901, and died 1972 Sussex. I wonder if Ernest was actually registered as Arthur:

Looking at my granddads marriage record Joseph to Constance Aston, my grandma, farther is down as William Wright, however there is notes on the side of the certificate saying Arthur Whitehead and occupation bicycle repairer.

Many thanks every one :-) yes Joseph was my grandad, and fostered to Alice & William Wright, living in Shotton, I do believe Stephen & Eliza whitehead are Arthur's parents, I too have seen them living not far from Arthur during 1901 census, it seems to me they are the correct family being a cycle repairer as mentioned on Joseph Birth certificate.
My grandad didn't talk about it, apparently, and he died before I was born, but i believe he was keen to keep the Whitehead name, although this wasn't found out by myself and siblings tell not they long ago just before my Dad passed so we all went by the name Wright.
I have tried to find Ernest too and manage to find one in Reading in a children's home. Maybe Stephen & Eliza Whitehead are not my Whiteheads but it does seem like they are.
