The Lancs bmd site would concur with the 1948 marriage, in many cases where a woman names a father with a different surname to her own it is transcribed under both names - as in this case. They recorded Bertha as both Furness and Johnson, and it was registry office, or registrar attended (maybe catholic?) |

A little bit more confirmation from that tree, Thomas Johnson and wife Mary Ellen were on 1901/11 census with Bertha. In 1901 she did have a brother David born in Burnley in 1878 - the Lancs BMD site give a mmn of Moseley, but it should be Mosedale (also had a brother William 1885 and sister Lily 1881 whose mmn confirms this). So this is Berth's parents marriage: |

There was another brother Arthur reg 1891, Bertha in 1896 & Florence in 1899, all in Great Harwood sub registration district. All with mmn Mosedale. This is Bertha's registration: |
