1911 census says they were married 16 years, that would be abt 1895. Since Florence and oldest children were born London this could be the marriage: |

Possibly Florence's birth. I think she lied about her age at marriage so she wouldn't appear older than husband. |

Big thanks to all posters. I started this research for cousins in Queensland, as Roger jnr was their grandfather and he left their grandmother (my G/Aunt Emily) I think in the 1930's, at least prior to the Second War. His family had no more contact with him, and naturally are curious as to his background. I did find where he had re-married in Australia, and so I thought I would go "backwards" Just as a point of interest, his first wife Emily Turner nee Hind, at sometime travelled back to the UK to Grantham, prior to and during the War with her two children John (dec) and Joan (dec) after her husband left her. Eventually they did all return to Queensland. Once again thanks everyone. :-) |

You should be able to find Roger and Florence on the 1881 census, which is free on the familysearch site |

You people are fantastic, I am sure the relatives in Queensland are going to be so please to receive all this information. Once again, thanks to all. Just one more question, is there any way to find what year Emily Turner arrived in the UK after leaving Australia. I would say mid 1930's, going by her son John's age, because when he was alive, he told me that he had gone to school in England when they moved back there, before returning to Aust in 1946. I seem to recall he mentioning "about 8 years old", but he was quite elderly when he said this. And just a bit of trivia, whilst they were living in Grantham, "he went to School with Margaret Roberts (Thatcher). :-) |

I'm afraid I can't help with their arrival, as those records aren't on FMP |

Jacqueline, is that the address prior to their departure in 1946 ? I always assumed they would have stayed in Grantham, as Emily had a rather well off Auntie there, who was a widow, and I am also assuming that she paid for them to go back to England when Roger jnr left her and the children, and she probably paid for them to return to Australia in 1946, after the War. |

Just had a look at Hodthorpe on a map, and now I see another piece of the puzzle, because it is near Whitwell, where another of Emily's Aunt's lived. In fact I have visited the farm at Whitwell, and met the current owners. So it makes sense that they may have lived nearby. :-) |

Thanks Chris ! That's the one, ties in with what John Turner told me before he passed away, that he was about 8 years old when they went back to the UK. The address in Grantham is that of their Aunt Susan, who owned the Fish & Game shop, and who I believe funded their return. :-) |
